When the first recipients of the UK Child Foundation Trust - the government’s new £250 hand out to infants – collect the invested proceeds in 18 years time, we’ll be well on the way to Armageddon. Or something just as disastrous!
Even if all the ingredients for a less volatile future were sprung into operation tomorrow there is still likely to be a major fall out from the current worldwide procrastinations on global warming. Some would even say we have already reached the point of no return!
So why bother taking steps now to adjust our present lifestyles to accommodate the welfare of future generations?
Well, there is such a thing as obligation. Give or take a war or two and the current wave of terrorism we, certainly those of us in the west, have had it pretty good for the last few decades. In fact, it’s because we’ve had it so good that the global climate is in deep recession!
Surely we owe it to those who’ve gone before who helped us get to where we are today plus those who are still to come, to try and get to grips with our present existence and create a positive understanding what’s to be done in the world today.
When future generations in their billions are crammed into the northern and southern most corners of Earth’s northern and southern hemispheres because they can’t survive the rising sea levels and rising temperatures in their native homelands, they’ll certainly be wondering why we took so long to change our ways!
So let’s get weaving and do something positive that’s going to save the future from the shortcomings and selfishness of the present!
